" Life is not supposed to be about fending off difficulties, beating fears, and coping with limited resources. Its about being happy, sharing respect, working positively, reaching out sincerely and giving your heart freely, even when others dont behave well. Be the best you can be."
Are you living or just surviving? This is the most wonderful time of the year, and I plan to indulge myself as much as possible. The holiday season has me reflecting upon a lifestyle choice that I made subconciously many years ago: Hedonism. " Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that the pursuit of pleasure & intrinsic goods are the primary or most important goals of human life. A hedonist strives to maximize pleasure (pleasure minus pain). upon finally gaining said pleasure, happiness may remain stationary". When people visualize a hedonist they immediately think of someone on an island in the middle of nowhere snorting cocaine, having threesomes, and gaining weight. This is extreme. Healthy hedonism can be the simple act of going outside and putting your bare feet in the earth or calling your mother to hear her laugh. Hedonism is about integrating all of the small but seemingly insignificant acts that make you happy into your daily routine." Alternative hedonism which turns its back to consumerist pleasures and instead posits increased time for personal relationships, communion with nature, locally grown food products, emphasis on spiritual growth and minimizing damage to the environment." You can be healthy and have fun without harming yourself or spending to much cash although in all honesty a sumptuous income can always better aid your desires. Hedomism can be as simple as taking a weekly stiletto class, traveling to a nearby city youve never been to, or indulging in a glass of wine and trash television after a hard day of work. Life is hard. I dont want to reach old age and in retrospect become aware of a life where I worked myself to death without any memories. In my opinion, hedonism just increases self awareness and happiness. The truth of the matter is happiness is just an emotion. It comes and goes just like sadness, excitement, disappointment, etc. However if you embark on a journey of discovering what makes you come alive youll know how to fight spiritual and emotional death. I hope the holidays are amazing for you. Namaste
" In order to pursue health, happiness, and intimacy in a non addictive way we must progressively claim and reclaim our own self, our own soul. This is a life long task, but when we pursue intimacy with ourself, then we will be succesful in our pursuit of intimacy with family, friends, lovers, and God."
