Divas Gettin Money
In 2011 I booked a job as one of 100 dancers to join Beyonce on her premier performance of " Run The World(Girls)" at Oprah's Surprise Spectacular and The Billboard Awards where Beyonce was honored as " Woman of the Millenium. I also was a back up dancer in Alexis Jordan video "Hush,Hush", " Lil Miss Egypt" and Josephine Baker in Dames Aflame Burlesque group, and cast in " A Cinderella Story: Once upon A Song. I did a pas de deux in a musical dancing to Tony Terry's " When Im With You" as he sang. I went to Amsterdam with Rahbi Raw and was his muse as " Miss Rollercoaster" as the main girl in the video. I modeled 420 friendly clothing line " Highlife" for 420 that year. It was a whirlwhild year, and I began to have talks with my agent about what I thought our next steps should be. He told me " Jazmia, youve done more than most people have done in their whole life, including me. " This was the same year Beyonce released her " Year of 4" documentary where she talked about how women were expected to be content with just enough, and how she would never stop reaching for the stars and striving for excellence. I really could relate to her when my agent shot down my ambitions with his narrowmindedness. He thought that me booking Beyonce was enough. I felt that it was just the beginning.
Ive had other agents since then, but none that i really felt understood my vision. My biggest gripe with my past agents is that they had the opportunity to utilize my talents in so many ways. Ive done theater, film, commercials, modeling, videos, trained with reputable dance companies, and performed live. I read Alicia Keys book "More Myself " and she is an Aquarius like myself, and she mentioned having the same problem. She had a conversation with Oprah, another Aquarian, and auntie told her that if we have a certain vision of ourselves it is our responsibility to make sure it manifest. i really needed to read that. I feel like that is so powerful. Since that transformative year of 2011 in my life where I achieved so much, only to have to leave my agent, the one person who helped me achieve it all, Ive done so much for myself. I auditioned for Lion King and Aladdin on Broadway where i made it to the bottom. Ive done regional theater jobs until I achieve my dream of Broadway. I auditioned to be Mercedes on the new hit show P Valley as well as working as an extra on other projects. Im a journalism major at GA State University Perimeter College where I made the DEANS LIST for Fall Semester 2020, and my blog has nearly 34,000 views. Ive been realizing that I had the power all along. I want to propose a pandemic toast to all of the other mermaids around the world who are striving for an inspirational legacy and not only a life, but a masterpiece. You have all the power. Run the World.
