As an act of self care I indulged in reading some of the most dope and amazing books this year. I engaged in the Winter Santiaga Series by Sister Souljah that included the books The Coldest Winter Ever, Life After Death, and Love After Midnight. I forgot how entertaining Winter Santiaga could be and the way Sister Souljah decided to continue the series was brilliant, creative, and thoroughly entertaining. I had the time of my life getting lost in the world of the gorgeous and glamorous Winter Santiaga. I also read the book Becoming Supernatural which had the unique perspective of visualizing who we see ourselves being in the future in the present to manifest our vision of the future. The book is full of innovative perspectives on the healthiest ways to manifest. The book Songs About Boys by Brian Patrick Davis is one of my favorite love and LGBTQ romance stories. I've read the book about six or seven times and I had just as much fun as I always do revisiting it this year. I also got lost in the world of the singer JoJo by reading her memoir Over The Influence. I enjoyed reading her story of love, triumph, addiction, art, redemption, defeat, and victory. I've always found her to be a very interesting woman as well as an impressive artistic talent. I recently found out my maternal great grandmother was a mixed race woman of Italian, Indian, and Black ancestry. I want to learn as much about being Italian as possible so I read the book The Italian Art of Living: Your Passport to Hope, Happiness, and Your Personal Renaissance by Dawn Mattera. It was full of Italian wisdom and was witty and insightful. I'm ending the year by diving into the world of the incredible Jada Pinkett Smith by reading her memoir,Worthy. Jada is an amazing woman with a full and exciting life and career. I can't wait to get lost in her Universe!
How can you engage in the act of self care by honoring the art of reading? What are some books you're interested in exploring? How can you take this past time more seriously in 2025? Let's not negate the act of mental stimulation, gymnastics, and taking care of ourselves intellectually!
