Im Your Girl, Youre My Girl. We are Girls!

I recently got a tattoo of the song titled " Truth, Beauty, Freedom, Love" from the musical, Moulin Rouge. Naturally Ive been reflecting on what these four words mean for me as a Black woman in today's current climate. Ive dealt with so much jealousy, envy, gossip, and negative energy from other women in my life for much of my life. Ive decided that Freedom to me looks like women empowerment. We live in a world of black women not knowing who they are, how important they are, and the roles they should fulfill in regards to other women. This comes as a consequence of slavery and being on this foreign land where we were stripped of nearly every human right possible. This has resulted in the less than savory interactions that can manifest when women are leading from a place of hate, envy, and malice instead of love, support, and compassion. Iyanla Vanzant once wrote that it is us black women who do not know our power. We are the primary nurturing source of both the black and white communities and the World itself. In my quest for Freedom I have made a decision to be a beacon of hope and sincerity in my relationships with other women. I refuse to become a product of the women who treated me unfairly and with jealousy in my life. The oppressor doesnt want women to be unified and in community with each other because they fear our power when we come together.  The oppressor doesnt want the Black woman to be healed, healthy, whole, and complete because it poses a threat to the patriarchal society built around the belief decorum of divisiveness. I was one of 100 girls to join Beyonce on her premier performance of her hit single " Run The World (Girls)" on Oprah's Surprise Spectacular and The Billboard Awards where Beyonce was honored as Woman Of The Millenium. Those two bookings with Beyonce were more than just some paid gigs. Its the way I try to live my life! Girls truly do run the world, and in my quest for Freedom I have taken it upon myself to be a safe space for all women. Ive had more than my fair share of experiences with women who wanted to degrade me and make me feel less than great about myself. Ive decided that Freedom to me is making the choice not to let the mean spirited actions of others dictate the type of person Im becoming. Im going to uplift women because thats who I am. Im going to be a safe space for women because thats who I am. Im going to be warm, compassionate, supportive, and loving towards women because thats who I am. Im not going to be like the women who hurt me, and that is a conscious choice of me becoming more free! I want all of my mermaids to experience the very best of what life has to offer. I want all of my mermaids living decadently and blessed and highly favored. Freedom, to me, is about being the Sacred woman who holds space for other Sacred women to become as fulfilled in their life as possible. This post is for every mermaid that ever had to deal with a worthless ass hater! How can we shift the narrative? How can we be apart of the change? The future is female, and being free to me is encouraging the creation of that female led future with a spirit of positivity! Beyonce taught us best. Who Run The World? GIRLS!!!

Lets get Free!!!
